1、 Historical background and establishment

Shengshan Academy, formerly known as Furong Academy, is located in Kaizhou District, Chongqing. It was founded in the 12th year of Yongzheng's reign (1734) of the Qing Dynasty and donated by Shen Zhenshi, the Supervisor of the County, to the east gate of the city.

In the seventh year of Qianlong's reign (1742), the Supervisor of the County County was built with stone roads. In the tenth year of Jiaqing (1805), Ma Mingluan, the Supervisor of the County, donated to build Kuige and added school fields. In the 25th year, the Supervisor of the County County was built at the foot of Shengshan Mountain by way of Daoyi, renamed Shengshan.

2、 Modern Reconstruction and Functional Positioning

In modern times, Shengshan Shutang has been rebuilt as a part of the former city of Kaizhou, becoming a new type of public cultural space with comprehensiveness, creativity, openness, and modernity.

It not only retains the functions of traditional academies, such as book collection and reading, but also introduces modern technological elements such as digital reading experience area and VR artificial intelligence technology experience area to promote cultural development and innovation, and promote the protection and inheritance of cultural heritage.

3、 Building scale and layout

The building area of Shengshan Calligraphy Hall is about 745 square meters, covering an area of about 902 square meters.

Its internal layout is reasonable, divided into multiple areas such as book collection area, reading area, cultural exhibition area, master lecture hall, etc., to meet the needs of different readers.

4、 Cultural activities and influence

Shengshan Shutang often holds various cultural activities, such as the Bookish Market, Shadow Puppetry Performance, Exhibition of Ancient Book Restoration Techniques, and Experience of Intangible Cultural Heritage Woodblock Printing. These activities not only enrich the cultural life of citizens, but also enhance the cultural connotation and influence of the ancient city of Kaizhou.

During the Yuanxiao (Filled round balls made of glutinous rice-flour for Lantern Festival) in 2025, Shengshan Shutang held the "New" Knowledge "and" Old "Time Shuxiang Fair, attracting a large number of citizens to participate.
