Kaizhou Museum is a comprehensive local museum located in Kaizhou District, Chongqing. It not only carries the responsibility of showcasing the history and culture of Kaizhou region, but also serves as an important window for citizens and tourists to understand the history, culture, and natural resources of Kaizhou.

1、 Basic Information

Location: Middle section of Binhu Park, Kaizhou District, Chongqing

Floor area: 11988 square meters

Building area: 4259 square meters

Exhibition Hall Area: Over 2350 square meters

2、 Historical evolution

The Kaizhou Museum was founded in October 2011 and after nearly three years of construction, it was officially completed and opened to the public in May 2014.

On September 25, 2018, the museum was rated as a national third level museum by the China Museum Association.

On December 28, 2021, it was rated as a national AAAA level tourist attraction by the Chongqing Tourism Scenic Area Quality Rating Committee.

In March 2024, Kaizhou Museum was included in the "Eighth Batch of Chongqing Patriotic Education Bases" list by the Chongqing Municipal People's Government.

3、 Architectural layout

The building height of the Kaizhou Museum is 18 meters, belonging to a 4-storey frame structure with a right angled trapezoid shape, and the exterior walls are mainly light red.

The exhibition hall of the museum consists of two parts: basic display exhibitions and thematic display exhibitions. The basic exhibition is located on the first floor, while the special exhibition is distributed in some areas of the second and first floors.

4、 Exhibition content

Basic exhibition: including three parts and twelve units: "The Source of Kaizhou", "The Prosperity of Kaizhou", and "The Soul of Kaizhou". Through intensive display of cultural relics, graphic and textual explanations, and multimedia interaction, the historical relics, excellent culture, natural resources, and humanistic spirit of Kaizhou are presented from various aspects such as history, politics, economy, society, and humanities.

Special exhibition: including three units: "Memories of the Ancient City", "Kaizhou People Playing Tides", and "Shadow Puppetry Charm". These exhibitions showcase the historical changes, character styles, and cultural characteristics of the Kai State region through different themes and perspectives.

5、 Collection of cultural relics

The total collection of the Kaizhou Museum exceeds 10000 pieces (sets), including about 8130 cultural relics (sets), with a complete historical sequence.

The museum houses over 600 pieces (sets) of national third level and above cultural relics, including 43 to 44 pieces of first level cultural relics (the quantity may change due to new discoveries or appraisal adjustments).

The collection includes exquisite artifacts such as the bronze wash of the inscription "Fugui Changyi Houwang" from the Eastern Han Dynasty, and the celadon double phoenix ear vase from the Longquan kiln of the Southern Song Dynasty. These cultural relics provide valuable physical materials for studying the history and culture of Kaizhou.
